Babad Do'ag at Night!

Holy crap I was scared!  I mean, I’m usually nervous taking pictures by myself.  But walking around in the desert, at night, can definitely freak me out!  I do love being out there by myself, doing whatever I please!  Buuuuuut there’s always those thoughts running through my mind - “What if I get bit by a snake? What if I fall off the mountain?  What if someone comes and steals me or worse, my camera!!!" ;)  I take pictures at night by myself all the time, so it’s not that I’m completely scared of it.  It's just when I usually go it’s during the week, after dinner and everyone’s settling in for the night.  Take this night for instance, it was a Monday for crying out loud! Not many people are up for or available to go out.

But I just HAD to go take some pictures (the little voice inside me was screaming NIGHT SHOTS!)  I was debating about going even as I was putting on my 4 layers of clothes.  By the time I talked myself into going and got all my stuff together, it was after 9pm.  But that was that.  I was going!  It was about 10 o’clock when I finally got to the parking lot.  Of course I could've been up there an hour or two earlier if I wasn’t telling myself I shouldn’t...

Anywho, it was beautiful outside but I was still a little scared. Every little sound I heard, I would stop.  The moon was bright enough to cast shadows, so those spooked me.  I smelt a skunk at one point, got startled by a couple birds and jumped when my tripod would rub against a bush.  But I am SO happy I went!  I didn’t get stabbed by any cactus (or creeps) and it was soooooo nice standing on those mountains with no one around looking at all the city lights and stars!

Pictures from the night below and I also made a short vlog (video blog) of the adventure :)

There was definitely a lot more time being enjoyed out there than scared.  I got some good pictures out of it and the weather ended up being really nice (with my layers on lol).

And you can check out a little bit from the night in the video below :)

Everyone should try and get out for a hike once the sun goes down.  It really is amazing to be out there under a night sky!  Do you know of any trails that would make for an awesome night hike?!     Let me know in the comments below!
