2015 Perseid Meteor Shower

Every year around the same time in August, there is the Perseid meteor shower.  If the weather is good, you can see a bunch of meteors every few minutes!  The meteor shower usually goes for a couple days and I try to go out at least one of the nights to take some pictures.

This year it was going to be hit or miss with the weather.  It was SUPPOSE to be great conditions with there being no moon, so you can see more stars!  But I was super bummed because it had been raining a ton leading up to it.  The night I decided to go, we had clouds allllll day :(   I kept my fingers crossed and then sure enough (*awwwwwwwww*) the clouds cleared up!

I grabbed my stuff, my dog Maggie and I was off!  It was about 11:45pm when I headed up to one of my favorite spots, (day or night) Mount Lemmon!  If you’ve never been, it’s amazing!  The base is all cactus and desert, and then the higher up you get, the more trees and forest you’re in.  It’s awesome.  I planned out ahead of time where I wanted to stop and luckily no one was there!  I wandered around and snapped a couple pics while Maggie followed behind.

(used my flashlight to light up the tree in the second shot)

There were a bunch of huge rocks to climb on and I got a great view of the open sky.  I even set up a telescope I brought to use as a prop.  Unfortunately it seemed like every time a meteor flew by, my camera was pointed in the opposite direction :/  Oh well.

I did have fun a lot of fun.  The weather was perfect, I got to hang with my dog and I did end up catching a couple meteors in some of my shots!  The picture below was one of the bigger ones I got.  It's the faint line towards the middle of the picture.

And of course when I finally started making my way down the mountain, I had to stop and get a shot of the city lights.

Make sure to mark this meteor shower down in your calendar for next year! :)
